The Sun visited entrepreneur Mary Mathis of Venetia, who owns a unique business in the Roosevelt Square shopping center, next to Tom & Betty’s Restaurant. Mathis and her husband, Ben, operate Freedom Enterprise IV Unleashed, which offers embroidery services and pet supplies and gifts.
Tell me about your bizarre business?
(Laugh) We have an identity crisis for sure. People wander in and then go back out and look up at the sign, trying to figure out what we’re about.
Tell me about yourself:
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. I worked as a secretary for Caterpillar. There I met my husband, Ben, who was a boater. If I hadn’t met Ben, I probably would have stayed at Caterpillar all my life and retired from there. Instead, he basically said, let’s blow this place and we did.
We lived on a sailboat for 12 years and it was a lot of fun. I’ve been able to visit a lot of different places. We went to the Bahamas several times. We ran a boat business in the 1980s. We spent time in Fort Pierce and St
